CompensationThe anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $30.00/hour to $33.00/hour. This position is eligible for participation in our short-term incentive program in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.The range provided is not a guarantee of compensation. The range reflects the potential base pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual base pay compensation will depend, in part, on factors such as geographic work location and relevant experience and skills. The anticipated compensation range described above is subject to change and the compensation ultimately paid may be higher or lower than the range described above.Position Details:This internship is a 10-week program based in our downtown Chicago office. You will work on the User Experience Design team, which is responsible for designing Grainger’s enterprise applications and customer-facing experiences. This intern will work cross-functionally with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineers on design projects that are impactful to our users. In addition to exciting projects, there will be time throughout the summer for networking, professional development, and social events.The internship is paid, and free housing is provided in downtown Chicago.You Will:As a User Experience Design Intern, you will work closely with a Senior UX Designer on design projects primarily focused on Grainger’s internal tools - a suite of custom enterprise tools that allow our employees to drive exceptional customer experiences, primarily in the product and customer information spaces. You will also have opportunities to learn about our customer-facing experiences such as Grainger.com. You will grow both your technical and soft skills and be exposed to how a UX team operates and partners with cross-functional teams to deliver valuable experiences.Learning Opportunities:Learn how UX Designers partner with stakeholders, product management, and engineering to deliver experiences for internal Grainger employeesDevelop an understanding of how UX and UI Designers work together to leverage and improve upon an established design systemGain experience conducting user research sessionsUnderstand how the tools we design bring value to users and drive growth at GraingerGain experience working in an agile environmentResponsibilities:Participate in discussions with users and stakeholders to gather requirements and understand user needsWork alongside a Senior UX Designer on design deliverablesParticipate in user feedback sessions to gain an understanding of how our tools are being used and identify improvement opportunitiesProvide ideas on how to improve upon our existing tools and design systemNetwork and build relationships with the broader UX team, product managers, engineering partners, and business stakeholdersYou Have:Currently pursuing a Bachelors degree in Human-Centered Design, Design Methods, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Visual Design, or related fieldsTargeted graduation date between Winter 2025 - Fall 2026An understanding of design, usability, and research best practicesAn interest in designing tools for internal Grainger employeesProficiency in common wireframing tools, preferably FigmaStrong written, verbal, and presentation skillsInitiative to proactively plan and execute workThe ability to make thoughtful decisions and explain your rationale to othersThe ability work in the US without visa sponsorshipWe are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, or veteran status.
